Cold Call (Work in progress)
In this ongoing body of work I explore the phenomenon of Indian call centres and international outsourcing. The project, conducted in the industrial city of Ahmedabad explores both the very small and the extremely large centres and it’s busy workers. The title, cold call, relates both to the job of the call centre worker and my own approach towards gaining entry into these institutions, which can be quite problematic in terms of access. The result is a dynamic documentary narrative that touches upon wide themes such as India’s fast paced economic growth and more intimate narratives relating to both the workers and the relationship forged between the photographer and the institution. The project is in constant evolution and one that I will be working on in the next few years having gained written access to very large centres with 500+ workers.
